We Were Soldiers Film Promotion
Icon Film Distribution required over 200 promotional posters for the recently released "We Were Soldiers" film. The smooth execution of this job can be attributed to a good choice of materials, efficient production methods and a thorough understanding of client objectives.

Latex was the chosen material for over half the posters. Whilst being our most cost effective material, latex is highly durable and water-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor use. Latex can also be used as a cost-effective back-lit poster printed single or double-sided. For the larger, outdoor posters. Vutek vinyl is waterproof and the inks used are UV resistent, which means it won't fade. It is an excellent material for long-term outdoor positioning.

Our Vutek digital printer is the machine used to print on latex paper and Vutek vinyl. Digital Printing is increasingly becoming the preferred option for jobs of this nature due to its high quality and quick turn around time. Compared to other methods of poster creation, such as screen-printing, the Vutek is ready for immediate output straight from a digital image.

The Use of Modern Graphics Against an Older Setting
Signcorp Pty Ltd required high quality graphics for a pre-construction display suite. The display suite was created for the new residential Alba, Henry Jasper & Ivy Complex to be built on the former grounds of St Margaret’s Hospital, Surry Hills.

In order to utilise an existing space and to create an exciting look, the new suite was created inside the former hospital chapel. Set against the original old structure, the modern display suite made for a most interesting interior.

We captured the contrast sought, by producing graphics of great colour and vibrancy. High quality Vutek prints of the floor plans were produced and mounted onto the walls. The centerpiece of the display suite however, was undoubtedly the magnificent ring measuring 19 metres in circumference that was suspended from the chapel ceiling. The inside of the ring was lined with a city-scape of Sydney, which we printed to sticky-back Vutek vinyl.

This project is a great example of how modern graphics can be used in an older space. Contrasting periods should not be seen as a limitation but rather as an interesting feature to be developed.

At the Comfia Designex Exhibition 2002
Flash Photobition have for some time recognised a growing interest in the use of graphics for interior design. In response to this, Atmosphere was created through a collaborative effort with Base-Line Image Building, a Melbourne based graphic design company. Atmosphere was launched at the Comfia Designex Exhibition 2002 held from 11th to 14th April where it made a most impressive contribution to the exhibition, showcasing their latest innovations in graphic-based interior design.

Atmosphere explores a variety of applications including graphics on glass, light boxes, photo mesh and textile graphics. Atmosphere’s stand at the Comfia Designex Exhibition sampled a range of these applications including a couch upholstered with digitally printed fabric. A photograph was taken of a texture, scanned and printed using our Vutek printer. One of the quirkiest features of the stand however, was without a doubt some very loud inkjet-printed suits, as modelled by the creators of Atmosphere Betul Madakbas, Fred Uden and Peter Maddison. And let’s face it, in today’s demanding world of high fashion, who wouldn’t want an outfit to match their couch?
If you missed out on the Comfia Designex Exhibition, upcoming Atmosphere appearances include:

  • Designbuild Exhibition - 2nd to 5th June 2002 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre
  • Retail Business Technology & Retail Business Services Exhibition - 28th to 30th August 2002 at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre

Pushing the Boundaries in Visual Communication
Many of the museums that we work with are the first to push the boundaries of visual communication with graphics, by experimenting with new mounting methods and printing onto various materials like silver foil, gold, silk, cotton, canvas, etc.

The Body Art Exhibition, which explores tattooing, piercing, scarification, body modification and body painting is now showing at the Australian Museum, Sydney. This exhibition is a great example of working with graphics in a non-traditional way. The exhibition was designed and produced by the Australian Museum in conjunction with Flash Photobition.

"Our aim was to create a visually stunning, thought provoking and sometimes controversial journey exploring this universal human trait," said Professor Mike Archer, Director of the Australian Museum.

If you haven't had a chance to visit a museum lately, here is your chance to see how museums have evolved from the days of glass cases, labels and stuffed animals. We have ten tickets to Body Art give away to our subscribers.
Click here to enter the draw.

Body Art will be running until 28th June 2002
