| Chris Athas,
owner of Surfection, licensees for Quiksilver in New
South Wales, says that
the key objective of the
design was to bring the brand into the store in a unique
way.
“ We wanted to create a feeling
that would let customers acknowledge the boardriding
lifestyle that is synonymous with Quiksilver.” says Chris.
Well-known Sydney architect Ian Halliday designed the store and says that the
architectural features created a challenge.
“The store has two frontages, one
on Oxford St and one in the arcade. They are both large
but different spaces that we needed to marry to lead
the
eye through the store,” says Ian.
This challenge, combined with the
aim to create an environment that captured the essence of the Quiksilver
brand, led to the installation of 45 lightboxes
to create an ‘underwater’ feel to the store.
