The backdrop material needed to be light and environmentally friendly. The choice was to use Ecotex, a material that has been used extensively in applications where a non pvc material is required.

A smooth finish with Ecotex

The area behind and to the side of the diving platforms is spread with air conditioning ducts so there was no flat surface to work with. The Flash install team built a light framework around these ducts and stretched the material over this framework for a smooth finish.

There were 17 drops that were 3m wide x 12m high. Each drop was installed individually and hand sewn together on site off a 60 ft boom lift.

We required 2 boom lifts on site that needed to be at least 4 metres apart at all times as the diving pool has an underwater viewing area to film synchronised swimming and there were load limits that had to be adhered to.

The wall perpendicular to the diving area was a wall of glass with 225 separate sections. For television purposes the glass wall needed to be blocked off so the lighting could be controlled. The solution was to print and install self adhesive graphics to each panel. Each piece was printed, numbered and installed on the appropriate glass panels in little over 2 weeks.
